Formation

For sheer fun flying you can’t beat formation! Many pilots are asked to ‘fly close to take a photo of me in my aircraft’ or to follow a colleague in another aircraft to another airfield, for instance.

It looks easy, and easy, but ONLY if you've been taught how to SAFELY fly on the wing of another aircraft or how to SAFELY lead a formation. We have two ex-military instructors whose day-to-day flying included formation and who would be pleased to show you the delights of this flying experience.

Courses are tailored to individual needs and experience - even just a look-see for the fun of it!

  1. Three sessions in and I can't wait for the next one...

Formation flying has proven a hugely addictive challenge, and one which I'm grateful to have had the chance to take on.

The feeling of flying feet away from another aeroplane, with the mind completely concentrated on maintaining station with minute and subtle corrections is fantastic, and has taken my flying to a whole new level.

From my sessions so far, this has been a great confidence builder and has pushed my skill set and capacity hard which has in turn bought about a great deal of learning and personal advancement. All with the ensuing personal satisfaction to boot, and a fantastic feeling of being part of a disciplined team...

Thanks to Simon and Paul for having the vision to push us "relatively new" PPL's towards new challenges such as this to help us continue to grow post-training, and for offering a safe and enjoyable environment to expand our boundaries within...

    Incredible, addictive, inspiring fun!

  2. I did two sessions last week and really enjoyed doing something different for a change. I would like to do more because two hours is only enough to learn what not to do, rather than how to get it right each time. I would love to see a few of us good enough to put on a short display for the Wings and Wheels Day!

  3. Had my first practical formation lesson yesterday, and it was amazing. I think this course teaches you so much more than just flying in formation. Highly recommended.

  4. I had a go at this yesterday and it was fantastic. A real challenge - especially to a student pilot with only 2 hours solo experience!

1 hours formation instruction taught me a huge amount about basic handling techniques and I think it has really helped me on my PPL skills.

If you haven't tried it - you must have a go.

(Simon/Paul - does that endorsement get me my commission??)

  5. How nice of you to arrange a formation flypast (yesterday) to welcome me home from 5 days in the Teterboro Falcon sim.
Just as I climbed out of the car, you came over Middleton Cheney going west and returned about 15 mins later.
    Very thoughtfull, but quite unnecessary!
    Best wishes,
